conference! saturday morning

Okay, so I've tried this before, and I'm gonna do things a little different this time. I tend to take notes on Conference talks as if I were in class listening to a lecture. I get a lot out of things, but I never refer back to the notes once I get my hands on the Ensign. So...this time, I think I'll just write down things I want to go back to once I get full-text copies of the talks, instead of trying to record all the information.

President Monson

- New temples!! Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Cordoba, Argentina, Kansas City metro area; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and ROME, ITALY!! Scott and I got super excited--Italy's getting a temple! He says we have to go back. I'm game! :-)

L. Tom Perry

- "The best is yet to come"--being optimistic

- Is he really talking about Thoreau's Walden Pond? Like, Elder Perry lived there? Sweet!

- When you take care of your body (eat well, exercise, get enough sleep!), you're less tempted by harmful substances, you're healthy, have an alert mind, and are more sensitive to the Holy Ghost 

- A simplified life brings blessings (simplify our clothing)--women, dress modestly; men, don't dress like scrubs (don't attract the "wrong kind of attention")

- "I believe that the great majority of our troubles today comes from a failure to follow that counsel [live within our means]"

- "Members of well-managed families do not pay interest, they earn it"

Silvia H. Allred

- I like this lady. :-)

- Things to understand about missionary work: 1) God loves all his children, 2) The gospel is the greatest gift we can give

- How do we do this? 1) Be an example! 2) prepare self & children to serve missions ...etc. Get these ideas later!

Neal Anderson

- "Faith is not only a feeling; it is a decision"

Marcos Aidukaidis (or something...)

- He's from Brazil :)

- Read the Book of Mormon as a family...it's awesome!

Dallin H. Oaks

- Sacrament meeting is AWESOME--so BE REVERENT, dangit

- Come in "well before" the meeting begins

- Don't "take care of business" before the meeting starts

- "Our manner of dress indicates the degree to which we understand and respect the sacredness of the ordinance in which we are about to participate"

- Don't distract other people

President Uchtdorf!
