so we moved to salt lake. (!)

More details to come, probably. For now I simply must assert that I CANNOT STAND how dark our apartment is! It's like living in a cave, at least as far as the living room and kitchen are concerned. There are two (fluorescent--oh, the humanity!) mounted lights in the kitchen, but none in the living room. We're trying--unsuccessfully, in my book--to get by with just my bendy lamp that dates back to dorm days. To make things worse, neither the kitchen nor the living room window really faces outside: one looks out onto the (outdoor, but still) stairwell, and one looks out into the half-covered courtyard; no direct sunlight comes in from either. Bother. Ironically enough, the bedrooms and bathroom are constantly bathed in sunlight, something that irks Scott to no end when he wants a nap. Right now he's curled up next to me in the (dark) living room, asleep on the couch, instead of the new (expensive!) bed my parents gave us for graduation. Good grief.

Other than the lighting issues, though, I'm just in love with this place. It's relatively roomy (the kitchen is pretty snug on storage, but we're making it work), especially compared to our last place. The second bedroom here is just waiting expectantly for us to find a purpose for it. The walls are a little thin, and the echoing courtyard gets pretty noisy in the afternoons when everyone is coming home from work or the kids in the complex are being especially hooligan-y; but there's a 9 PM quiet hour law in place that seems to be well-respected, and the neighborhood--that's probably my favorite part. It's beautiful, quiet, so close to everything (10 minute bus ride to campus, 10 minute drive to I-15, just blocks from downtown SLC), across the street from Smith's and Blockbuster and Subway, surrounded by parks and nice-looking people walking their dogs...it's really rather idyllic.

So once we're unpacked, more lighting and fewer fluorescent bulbs are first on my to-do list. For now though, the question is: Where is Peach's food? It's in a box somewhere that we haven't unpacked yet, but I don't know which one. Poor thing. I keep giving her people food scraps, but I don't think she's gotten a refill of her regular hamster food since...Sunday? Time to do some more un-boxing. (Moving seems so futile: Put all of your stuff in boxes. Put all of the boxes in piles. Put all of the piles in a truck. Then do it all again, backwards, 24 hours later. Bah!)

Fun Cathryn!! I'm glad you found a cute place--- some good, tall, standing lamps I'm sure will do some great good! The neighborhood sounds fantastic!!
